Uncle Sam Wants YOU to Help Track Social Media in Government

first_imgA Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Tags:#Government#web If you’re a social media-savvy citizen, Uncle Sam wants you to help populate a brand new timeline of the most important moments in government social media use. Earlier today, David McClure, the associate administrator of the General Services Administration’s Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies, introduced a government social media timeline in a blog post on the new citizen engagement platform, Citizen.apps.gov and called on the American people to send “the important U.S. government milestones you know about by emailing them to us at GovNewMedia@gsa.gov.” Here’s what the timeline looks like so far:U.S. Government use of Social Media on Dipity. If you follow the rapid acceleration in the use of social media by government, you know that the movement to use social media, data, blogs, wikis and online video to make government work better is broadly called “Gov 2.0.” Think of it like Web 2.0 for government. There are unquestionably risks and rewards for the use of Web 2.0 technologies by government. The Obama administration, however, has been willing to try to use the Internet in new ways. For example, did you tweet a question to President Obama in his recent MTV town hall? Did you see the @FCC live tweet the blacked-out Giants-Phillies baseball game yesterday? Did you follow tweets from the Mars Rover or follow @NASA astronauts as they orbit the Earth? In his post McClure wrote that:Gov 2.0 is like any social network- it’s always changing, can be both difficult and rewarding, and occasionally get pretty hairy. And like Facebook, Gov 2.0 is only as valuable as the time you – and your community – put into it. It’s been a rapidly accelerating ride – as more and more interest comes from the White House, and, more importantly, the American public to increase the reach and effectiveness of engaging and communicating with government.McClure cited milestones like the first government YouTube channel, the redesign of WhiteHouse.gov with open-source software and the use of Twitter by the State and Defense Departments after the Haiti earthquake. Now, the federal government is looking to the American people – yes, you – to contribute more milestones to the timeline via GovNewMedia@gsa.gov. Add a date, provide any sourcing information and keep eye on the evolution of this government social media timeline. UPDATE: An alert reader in Washington pointed out that Uncle Sam’s timeline probably won’t end up including any official recognition of government surveillance of social media use in all contexts. For instance, thanks to the EFF’s FOIA requests, we know that DHS monitored social media during Obama’s inauguration. While it certainly makes sense for @FEMA or the @LAFD or the @Boston_Police to be monitoring social media channels during crises, government agencies haven’t always been completely forthcoming about what they’re monitoring, how they’re doing it or why. That’s why ECPA reform and digital due process matter. Given national security concerns, protecting some sources and methods shouldn’t surprise anyone. If we take it as a given that government will be using social media during crises, elections or for greater transparency, however, it’s important that everyone involved know who’s really listening. Forrester predictions for CMO role are dire, but there is hope for current CMOs

first_img Posted on 31st October 2019Digital Marketing FacebookshareTwittertweetGoogle+share Forrester predictions for CMO role are dire, but there is hope for current CMOsYou are here: The role of the chief marketing officer (CMO) has been increasingly scrutinized in recent years. Dozens of CMO positions have been axed from some of the world’s most recognizable brands, including McDonald’s which replaced the role with a new SVP marketing technology position. CMOs who remain will need to prepare to handle even more pressure to prove their organizational value in 2020, says a new Forrester report. In 2018 Forrester predicted a decline in Fortune 100 CMOs. Since then, organizations have started to part ways with CMOs, reallocating their responsibilities to leaders such as the CIO. 2020 is predicted to be a critical year for CMOs to deliver seamless customer experiences with their martech investments and, crucially, generate attributable revenue from those martech-enabled experiences. Why we should careThe CMO has evolved from a position focused on long-term brand-building activities to owning everything from branding and communications to martech investments, product innovation and operations. Marketing has also transitioned to a revenue center. Today’s CMOs need to align these components to orchestrate customer experiences (CX) that drive long-term relationships between brands and their customers. CMOS should foster an integrated marketing environment and a data-driven approach across their teams — including having strong data governance practices in place — to deliver more connected customer experiences with increased personalization. “Businesses can no longer afford any amount of disconnect or fragmentation in the brand,” the Forrester Predictions 2020: CMO (purchased required) report says.Martech spend continues to take a solid chunk out of CMOs’ budgets, and while spending slowed this year, the report warns that CMOs approach martech investments cautiously — and more strategically. “Rather than blindly dumping more money into tech spend, we’ve delivered growth with a strategy built around creative engagement with our customers through existing channels,” Chris Brandt, CMO of Chipotle told Forrester.More on the newsIn addition to creating better CX and managing martech, Forrester analysts predict that the best CMOs will establish a span of control in the name of customer value and brand continuity.CMOs will also remain crucial to building their organizations by delivering their brands’ beliefs to acquire talent and drive employee loyalty. The post Forrester predictions for CMO role are dire, but there is hope for current CMOs appeared first on Marketing Land. From our sponsors: Forrester predictions for CMO role are dire, but there is hope for current CMOs Related postsLytics now integrates with Google Marketing Platform to enable customer data-informed campaigns14th December 2019The California Consumer Privacy Act goes live in a few short weeks — Are you ready?14th December 2019ML 2019121313th December 2019Global email benchmark report finds email isn’t dead – it’s essential13th December 20192019 benchmark report: brand vs. non-brand traffic in Google Shopping12th December 2019Keep your LinkedIn advertising strategy focused in 202012th December 2019 HomeDigital MarketingForrester predictions for CMO role are dire, but there is hope for current CMOslast_img read more

Cloud Infrastructure Transformation for Data Centric Computing

first_imgThe cloud has created a “new normal” in how compute resources are delivered and consumed, creating new businesses and streamlining IT services for enterprises. At Intel’s Data Centric Innovation Summit, we shared how the Cloud Service Provider (CSP) segment is leading the wave of data-centric computing, pushing the limits of compute, memory, storage, and network connectivity.Intel’s CSP segment revenue doubled over the last four years with a compound annual growth rate of 30% from 2014 to 2017 (source: Intel). Looking forward, strong growth is expected to continue as we explore the confluence of cloud architectures innovations, the growth of the “cloud edge”, cybersecurity, network transformation, and acceleration of AI.CSPs are not a monolithic block with uniform needs. Each has their own business priorities, unique workloads, and datacenter design points, so they “personalize” their infrastructures to differentiate their services. This diversification drives us to engage deeply with our customers, going “under the hood” with them to identify particular hardware and software optimization points that will increase efficiency and expose the full performance of the Intel® platform to offer the best user experience. We use this type of engagement model with the both the largest CSPs and smaller organizations looking to grow their footprint in the market. It’s exciting to engage with them as they build out their own unique capabilities and approach to the market, creating a diverse range of choices for end users.Intel is in a strong and unique position to partner with CSPs worldwide, not only to drive the best performance and TCO for their infrastructure, but to engineer and deliver new services that deliver user value.Transformative Platform Technologies Optimized for CloudOne factor in our success in the cloud is our ability to customize CPUs to the specific needs of individual customers and their workloads. In the past five years, our volume of CPUs that have been customized to a CSP’s unique needs has increased from 19% in 2014 to 50% in 2017 (source: Intel). These customized CPUs are tailored for specific operation profiles, differentiated by power, thermals, core-count, I/O, and other features in response to the customer’s needs. The optimization does not stop at the component level; it expands across our broad portfolio of compute, storage, memory, and networking products, and up and down the cloud stack.“We have been working with Intel for over a decade on highly custom silicon that enables us to deliver a choice of high performance compute options for our customers. AWS continues to innovate by offering new Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor based EC2 instances like M5, R5, C5, and most recently the z1d instance that offers sustained all-core turbo speeds of up to 4.0 GHz, the fastest of any cloud instance.”– Amazon Web ServicesToutiao is one of the fastest growing digital content providers in China, providing a compelling news headline app serving hundreds of millions of people. A key success factor driving this traffic is Toutiao’s personalized content recommendation engine based on machine learning and infrastructure optimized for the best user experience. Toutiao’s next-generation data-driven infrastructure is based on Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with an innovative platform design philosophy, achieving balanced system design with Intel’s high-speed Ethernet and Intel DC SSDs to fuel  the performance scale required for Toutiao’s users.Another example of the power of partnership is Oath Inc., a subsidiary of Verizon Communications and the parent of its many digital media divisions, including Yahoo!, TechCrunch, and Tumblr. Intel and Oath collaborated on an ambitious cloud modernization and optimization plan, spanning hardware infrastructure, data center design, and software optimization. Nothing was left unexamined. In addition, Intel and Oath worked together on a customized, configurable CPU that was optimal for their services and, when deployed across their data centers, reduced their overall TCO.Solution Optimization and DifferentiationIn addition to customizing at the CPU level, we work with CSPs to ensure their software is getting the most out of the Intel® platform’s features by exposing them through our extensive software tools and libraries. One example is Tencent, where we helped enhance the WeChat* user interface through voice recognition, and convert user voice into text for hands-free input. Through improving the Long-Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model on the latest Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor, Intel helped Tencent WeChat accelerate voice recognition performance by 16X, and enabled Tencent to get full performance from AI on their workloads.Furthermore, Amazon Web Services launched its Deep Learning AMIs that come with TensorFlow* 1.6 built with Intel® Advanced Vector Instructions (Intel® AVX) and Intel® Math Kernel Library for Deep Neural Networks (Intel® MKL-DNN) to optimize deep learning training performance. With these optimizations, training a ResNet-50 benchmark with synthetic ImageNet dataset in Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors-based AWS C5 instance was 7.4X faster than training on the stock TensorFlow 1.6 binaries.Helping Accelerate the Cloud MarketplaceAt Intel, we want to help a wide range of CSPs build the most optimized cloud infrastructure. The Intel® Cloud Insider Program offers training, testing, and community support resources to help CSPs build an industry-leading cloud infrastructure. We just launched the Intel® Cloud Insider Advanced Technology Sandbox program globally, offering easy, early access to the pre-release hardware in compute, storage, network interface controllers, and more. With over a decade of engagement with CSPs in driving infrastructure optimization, it’s fantastic to be recognized by our customers for our joint work. At the Google Cloud Partner Summit in July, Intel received the Google Innovative Solution in Infrastructure Award for our work in 2017, and we look forward to even more fruitful collaboration this year to deliver SAP HANA* in-memory database services equipped with Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory through Google Cloud.Intel’s investment in a silicon foundation across compute, memory, storage, and network, and a system’s approach to workload optimized infrastructure has created unmatched innovation for the drivers of data-centric infrastructure capability. The diversification in cloud requirements, services, and capabilities is more complicated than ever before. When we collaborate with CSPs, we look at the system and not just silicon as the design point and we use our hardware and software engineers to unlock more value and differentiation. To learn more about Intel resource that can help Cloud Service Providers, visit us here.Check out all the news from the Intel Data Centric Innovation Summit here.last_img read more

Virat Kohli called for a review even after third umpire said “NOT OUT”. And India won

first_imgVirat Kohli does everything on the cricket field. Almost everything unless you expect him to start rolling his arms over and pick five-wicket hauls.Kohli has been in outstanding form this season. In nine Test matches at home, he has smashed three double hundreds and a breathtaking 167. He now has the most runs in a season in home Tests in the history of the game. (Also read: Stats: Virat Kohli most successful Indian captain after the first 23 Tests)The 28-year-old has also overseen series wins over New Zealand, England before trumping Bangladesh in the one-off Test in Hyderabad, where he hammered an aggressive 204, made some smart decisions on the field, showed his growing expertise with the DRS and then smashed a quickfire 38 in the second dig. (Also read: Virat Kohli breaks Virender Sehwag’s record for most Test runs in home season)On the final day, India needed seven wickets to seal victory over the Tigers, who had shown plenty of resilience on a flat surface. R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma struck some crucial blows right through the day to leave Bangladesh nine down at the stroke of tea. (Also read: Virat Kohli made 2016 a year to remember)The second last session was therefore extended by 30 minutes. Ashwin, bowling to Taskin Ahmed, went up in appeal, the on-field umpire Marais Erasmus, referred to the TV umpire for caught dismissal and indicated through the soft signal that the batsman was out. But here’s how it all unfolded in what turned out to be the final ball of the innings.advertisement100.3: WICKET! R. ASHWIN TO T. AHMEDVery full on leg stump, Taskin looks to flick but is struck on the pads. Big appeal for lbw and the close-in fielder has taken it as well. Erasmus thinks there is an inside edge and so denies the appeal. However, as the fielder has taken it, he has to go upstairs to confirm if it was a bump ball. The soft signal is OUT. Replays show that there was no bat involved. So, it is a not out regarding the catch. Kohli then nonchalantly opts for the review, which was obvious. Impact is line and that’s hitting leg stump.last_img read more

Ohio State rowing ready to compete for national title

The No. 4-ranked Ohio State rowing team was selected as one of 16 teams that will head to West Windsor, N.J., this week to compete for the national title at the NCAA Championships. The rowing, which had one of the athletic department’s 46 self-reported NCAA violations that were released last week, have qualified for the NCAA championships every year as a team since 2000, making this their 13th-consecutive appearance. The program is one of only five in the nation to achieve that number of consecutive trips. OSU finished second at the Big Ten Championships on May 13, with a total of 145 points, falling behind Michigan, which took home the win with 147 points. The NCAA Championships are made up of 16 teams, with each team fielding two boats of eight rowers, First and Second Varsity Eights, and one boat of four rowers, First Varsity Four. Senior Ellen Heister, who rows on the First Varsity Eight, said the loss to Michigan at the Big Ten Championships will give the team an advantage going into nationals. “Big Tens was kind of a learning experience for us. We saw the speed that Michigan has all season, but we hadn’t gotten to race them until Big Tens. We got to analyze a few things about our own race, in relation to how they did when they beat us, so I think that will be beneficial when we get to race them again,” Heister said. “I think we’re all really excited about where our team is seeded in accomplishing the goal that we set at the beginning of the year.” Coach Andy Teitelbaum said that with the goal and focus on winning a national championship, the team looks forward to racing former competitors and new opponents. “I think Michigan showed us a couple of things in the First and Second Eight, and now it’s up to us to see whether or not we’re equal to the challenge,” Teitelbaum said. “They’re not the only crew that’s out there that I think is particularly formidable. We haven’t seen anybody from the West Coast, so it will be fun to see how we stack up against their speed.” Junior Allison Elber of the First Varsity Eight said the team is eager to meet the high competition and compete at the next level. “There are a lot of really good teams there and we’re expecting that, and we feel that we’re ready to compete at that level now, so we’re just really excited to get out there and show what we can do,” Elber said. Sophomore Claire-Louise Bode of the First Varsity Eight, said the two-point loss to Michigan at the Big Ten Championships was a part of their journey toward the goal of a national title. “I feel like that was one step towards what we plan to do,” Bode said. “Now that we’ve gone through it, we have a better picture in our heads of where we’re going to, and the goal is in reach. We’re ready for it now.” The Buckeyes will compete on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J., for the NCAA Championships Friday through Sunday. read more
