Calgary hosts the Lineman Rodeo AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email by News Staff Posted Jul 12, 2014 4:57 pm MDT About 70 lineman from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba showed off their stuff Saturday at the Lineman Rodeo, a popular draw for utility companies.Participants competed in a Hurt Man Rescue exercise which Andre Brown, a lineman himself, explains is a procedure used to rescue an injured person from atop a wooden power pole.“Doing this event, the judges while letting a person down, they don’t want you to bounce them on the poll or anything and set them down safely,” said Brown.There was also the pole climb relay, designed to assess one’s ability to climb a pole with 25 pounds of gear.Officials say safety is a big part of working with electricity and these kinds of games are a chance to reinforce that.The day included a trade show and various activities for kids including face painting and a petting zoo.
