first_imgThe Jackson County Animal Shelter believes that both pets and people deserve to live in a safe community together.  Staff and volunteers strive daily to provide adoption and animal reunification services, pick up stray and unwanted animals, investigate cruelty and nuisance complaints, conduct vaccination clinics, and educate the community about proper pet care. The Jackson County Animal Shelter is proud to place animal companions with new families through adoption services with two main goals in mind—saving lives and helping the community find animal companions.  To ensure that both animals and the community are kept safe, Animal Shelter staff prepare each animal prior to adoption.  Animals are vaccinated based on recommended vaccinations and dewormed/defleaed.  Then, they undergo a heartworm test and treated if necessary.  Finally, all animals are spayed or neutered once they reach the appropriate weight.Adopting an animal usually costs $70 for dogs and $55 for cats.  This cost covers vaccinations, spay/neuter, and a housing fee.  Currently, the Animal Shelter is running a “buy one, get one free” special on cats allowing the community to adopt two cats for the price of one.For more information about the availability of adoptable pets, visit the Animal Shelter’s volunteer-run Facebook page, or call the Animal Shelter at 828-586-6138.last_img
