Cundy claims Mesut Ozil was ‘never cut out for the Premier League’ after Arsenal snub

first_imgJason Cundy has claimed Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is ‘not cut out for Premier League football’ after his Gunners exile continued on Thursday. The playmaker was again snubbed by manager Unai Emery for the Gunners’ Europa League clash against Portuguese side Vitoria, which Nicolas Pepe came off the bench to save with two fine free-kicks in a 3-2 win. It’s the fifth game in a row Ozil was not even named in the match-day squad, with the player wishing his team-mates good luck, alongside club legend Roberto Pires, from the sidelines. Some players aren’t cut out for Premier League football and he is one of those. “You need so many different assets to be a Premier League footballer. In other leagues the pace is slower, physically they’re not as demanding.“Technically you could argue that other European leagues are better technically. I think LaLiga is a better technical league than the Premier League.“But Ozil doesn’t have the minerals to survive in the Premier League, for me.”That is despite Ozil breaking a Premier League assist record since he joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013.Ozil became the fastest player to record 50 Premier League assists in 2018 after 143 games for Arsenal, beating Eric Cantona’s long-standing record.Although, that achievement has since been eclipsed by Kevin De Bruyne who got his 50th league assist earlier this year in his 123rd appearance for Manchester City.In fact, up until Emery’s arrival as manager, Ozil had been one of the top goal-creators in the top flight, with 32 goals and 52 assists in 167 Premier League appearances. getty 2 Getty Images – Getty center_img Of course, his influence at Arsenal has declined in recent years and his decline began before Emery’s arrival in north London.Ozil has publicly stated he has no problem with his manager, who he respects, but Cundy is convinced the same is not true for Emery and believes Arsenal will do all they can to offload the midfielder in January.“It’s becoming more and more obvious that Unai Emery is not having him,” he added.“Once a manager has made up his mind about a player, there’s no point.“As soon as January comes around they will be looking to get him out on loan wherever they can.“There’s no point at just throwing him in, he might as well give some of the younger players an opportunity as he has done. They’re the future.“If Ozil is not the future and the manager doesn’t believe in him, Arsenal have to move forward without him.”Watch a clip of Jason Cundy on The Sports Bar above 2 Ozil has made just two appearances for Arsenal this season Ozil’s match-winning displays for Arsenal have become a thing of the past last_img
