St. Paul High school held its annual Blue/White scrimmage Saturday, and the performances displayed give coach Pete Gonzalez reason for optimism. Quarterbacks Adrian Gallegos, a junior, and sophomore Andrew Canales played well, according Gonzalez, and senior running back Nicolas Grigsby sparked the day with an impressive effort. “Both of the quarterbacks had their moments,” Gonzalez said, “and Nick had a few long runs that added some excitement. The running game is coming together, and we’re pretty comfortable with the (offensive) line. The passing game is a work in progress, but it’s coming along.” Other players cited included junior wide receiver Ryan Stigert, senior middle linebackers Mike Peak and Joe Morales and junior defensive end Albert Hernandez. The Swordsmen open the season Friday, Sept. 1, against visiting Bishop Amat.
