Newcastle United won seven consecutive Premier League matches between September and October 1996 – Two decades ago Newcastle came agonisingly close to winning the Premier League title, but their best winning streak in the division actually came the following season. Arsenal won 14 consecutive Premier League matches between February and August 2002 – In top spot it’s Arsenal’s 2002 champions, who reeled off 13 wins in succession to storm to the title, taking their run to 14 victories in a row with opening day success in the following campaign. This run was part of a 30-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League which laid the foundations for the famous unbeaten season in 2003/04, and a record 49-game unbeaten run in the Premier League. Chelsea won 11 consecutive Premier League matches between April and September 2009 – Chelsea’s 11 wins in a row spanned the 2008/09 season and the following campaign, with five wins in a row closing out the campaign under Guus Hiddink’s first spell as interim manager, then a further six victories to kick-start a double-winning season under Carlo Ancelotti. 8 Joint 3. Manchester City won 11 consecutive Premier League matches between April and September 2015 – City’s best winning run in the Premier League spans two seasons – the 2014/15 campaign and the start of the present season. While their six-match winning run last spring saw them finish runners up to Chelsea, five wins on the bounce in August and September 2015 helped get their title challenge off to a great start, although it remains to be seen if those 15 points will help them claim the title. 2. Manchester United won 12 consecutive Premier League matches between March and August 2000 – The Red Devils were completely dominant in the Premier League at the start of the millennium, and they ended the 1999/2000 season with 11 straight wins, including four victories after the title had been claimed. That gave them top spot by an astonishing 18 points ahead of runners up Arsenal, and they started the next season with another win to get the ball rolling for a third title in a row. While a draw in their second match of the 2000/01 season ended United’s winning streak, they still ended up clinching the Premier League title with five games to spare. 8 8last_img
