Senior Fisheries officer of Dominica Fisheries, Julian Defoe says that the Dominica Fisheries seeks to ratify the fisheries legislation.At a conference with the Ministry of Agriculture, Foods and Fisheries, Defoe said that enactment of the legislation will contribute to sustaining a healthy fisheries environment as well as maintain food-health and food safety.He further mentioned that he the fisheries aims to have food-safety as a standard operating procedure, which will in turn contribute to safe food-handling.“Every single Dominica should have fair access to a good quality product and have no food safety fear. It will be good for the hotel industry, it will be good for the consumers”Defoe also spoke on the fisheries rehabilitation project which is well on its way, and will be valued over Fifteen Million Eastern Caribbean Dollars (EC$15,000,000). He stated that as part of the project, the fisheries plans to implement a modern laboratory which can be shared with other sectors, as well as environmentally friendly equipment.Defoe made it clear that the physical structure of the fisheries sector is not the only aspect on which focus is being placed but also, the internal structure of the sector.
