The UWP will also implement a national high school and state college entrepreneurship scholarship program which would lead to new start-up and immediate job by time of graduation. This he said is expected to lead to approximately 250 new jobs a year.Mr John further highlighted “some tangible, solid proposals” which his party believes will also lead to economic recovery. These tangible proposals includes the establishment of a state of the art juicing processing plant in the west coast and the upgrade and or allocation of one of the existing water bottling plants. It also includes the establishment of a high value boutique style agro-tourism chocolate plant in the Layou area, the establishment of a root crop processing facility and the revitalization of the bay oil industry in Delices and Petit Savanne.According to Mr John, the UWP will provide direct support to facilitate and alleviate the economic pressure which hotel industries are facing as well as direct support to enterprises and individuals in the cultural industries. He explained that his party will place great emphasis on good governance as this is the foundation of any thriving democracy.“No one should be disenfranchised and absolutely no one should be allowed to frustrate that process. We believe that the rights and freedom of every citizen should be respected as we pursue happiness”. As a result, the UWP will ensure that voter ID cards become a reality, that there is a cleansing and revising of the voter’s list, a fixed date for election, campaign financing reform and constitutional amendment for two terms maximum for any one prime minister. They will also strengthen parliamentary committees like the Public Accounts Committee and the Integrity in Public Office Commission.Mr John noted that his party is “proud of its records for standing on the side of the constitution by taking up electoral reform and the court matters” because this has “certainly made Dominicans more aware of their rights under the constitution”.
